Northey Street City Farm and Honeyhunters Australia will celebrate World Bee Day at Northey Street Organic Market on Sunday 19 May.
Visit the Honeyhunters stall to learn more about issues affecting bees in Australia and internationally, and the important role they play in food pollination and security.
Honeyhunters Australia is a family run, sustainable green business. Founded in 2002 by Simon Chatburn, the aim is to provide all natural products from the beehive, and also source boutique honeys from different State Forests and National Parks in Queensland.
Founded in 1994, Northey Street City Farm has since created a vibrant green oasis in the heart of Brisbane. We believe that the dominant way of life is unsustainable but by practicing Permaculture we can create an environmentally, socially and economically just world. We have a vision of all living sustainably. Our purpose is to be an inspirational working model of a community-based urban permaculture farm which promotes and educates for sustainability.
It will be an informative, educational and fun day! Activities will focus on role of bees in our society, pollinating and food security.
Activities will include:
- A display of fruits and vegetables that are pollinated by bees;
- Small group tours of the nursery that is situated inside Northey Street Organic Market to identify bee-friendly plants
- Tasting different types of honeys (a guessing game for children)
- Talks by our beekeeper on all beehive products
