A Rotary Club of Eltham program to promote community awareness of Bees, the crisis of declining bee populations and countermeasures to support bees, particularly through garden plant selection and habitat enhancements.
The program will feature an information stall and display in the Eltham Town Square on World Bee Day 20 May, 22 May and at the Eltham Farmers Market on Sunday 23 May in parallel with complementary activities at Edendale Community Environmental Farm.
A 2hr "Backyard Beekeeping" workshop with Benedict Hughes from "The Practical Beekeeper" will be held at Edendale Farm commencing 4pm on Saturday 22 May. The course will help celebrate World Bee Day by learning more about the amazing Honeybee. In addition to providing you with a broad understanding of the history and biology of a colony of European honeybees, at the end of the course participants will know how important bees are in our food systems and what steps need to be taken to get started in beekeeping.
The workshop is suitable for participants aged from 10 years onwards.
